Korean traditional dance is generally divided into two categories: court dance and folk dance. Folk dance is filled with vigor and rhythm, a far cry from staid court dance. Buddhism, Shamanism and Confucianism all contributed to the development of folk dance. Court dance dates back to the Silla period and was actively promoted during the Koryo Kingdom, a period known for its love of festivals.
